Paying for care at home
There are several ways to pay for care at home, and many families use a mix. We support both privately funded clients and people funded by their local council, and we're always happy to talk you through the options.
Paying privately (self-funding)
If you have savings or capital over £23,250, you will usually pay for your own care. When you are receiving care in your own home, the value of your home is not counted. You can arrange care with us directly: we visit for a free assessment, agree a care plan with you and give you a clear quote before care starts.
Council-funded care
Anyone can ask their local council for a free care needs assessment. If you are eligible, the council will also look at your finances. With savings below £14,250, the council usually pays for the care you are assessed as needing (you may still pay something from your income). Between £14,250 and £23,250, the cost is shared. If you live in Brent, contact Brent Council Adult Social Care.
Direct payments
If the council agrees to fund your care, you can ask to receive it as a direct payment and choose your own care provider, including Yenis Care Services. In Brent, your social worker can refer you to the free Brent Direct Payment Service, which helps you set it up.
NHS Continuing Healthcare
If your care needs are mainly health-related and complex, the NHS may pay for your care in full. NHS Continuing Healthcare is not means-tested. Ask your GP, social worker or hospital discharge team about a Continuing Healthcare checklist assessment.
Benefits that can help
Attendance Allowance is for people over State Pension age who need help with personal care. It is not means-tested and, from April 2026, pays £76.70 or £114.60 a week depending on your needs. Many families put it towards the cost of care. Find out more and apply on GOV.UK.
The figures above apply in England for 2026/27. This page is general guidance, not financial advice. For free, independent advice, contact Age UK Advice on 0800 678 1602.
Frequently asked questions
How quickly can care start?
Once we have confirmed we cover your area, we arrange a free care assessment, usually in your home. We will give you a realistic start date at the assessment. If care is needed urgently, for example after a hospital stay, tell us and we will do our best to help.
Is the care assessment free?
Yes. The assessment is free and there is no obligation. It helps us understand the support needed so we can give you a clear care plan and quote.
How much does home care cost?
It depends on how many visits are needed, how long each visit is and the type of support. We will give you a clear quote after the assessment, before any care starts. See the funding options above for help with costs.
Do you work with council-funded clients?
Yes. We support both privately funded clients and people whose care is funded by their local council, including people using direct payments.
Will I have the same carer?
We aim to keep a small, consistent team of carers for each person, so you get to know the people supporting you. We will always let you know about any changes.
Are your carers trained and checked?
Yes. All our carers are DBS-checked and complete induction training before they support anyone. We are registered with and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Which areas do you cover?
Our main area is Brent, including Harlesden, Willesden, Stonebridge, Neasden, Wembley, Alperton, Kingsbury and Kilburn. We can also support parts of Ealing, Barnet and Westminster on enquiry.
Can you help after a hospital stay?
Yes. We support people recovering at home after a hospital stay, working alongside GPs and community health teams.
Can my care plan change?
Yes. Your care plan is reviewed regularly and can change as your needs change. Just let us know if you need more, fewer or different visits.
